THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION has certainly been in the newspapers lately – well, in the newspapers that still dare to criticize the FBI, anyway. One week the story is about the FBI sending “false flag” infiltrators to the January 6th protests and attempting to incite violence. The next week, it’s an FBI raid on a former President’s home under dubious and mostly-redacted grounds, where seemingly everything seized was immediately “leaked” straight to the news headlines. The week after that, Mark Zuckerberg reveals that during the 2020 election season, the FBI ordered Facebook to suppress what they called “misinformation” about Hunter Biden’s laptop.
One with an eye for history will discern that this sort of questionable behavior by the Feds is not new for them, nor even unusual. The first Director of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover, served for 37 years and was instrumental in cultivating the FBI’s “work ethic” of extortion, corruption, and state terror. Under the infamous COINTELPRO program, the FBI spent decades covertly harassing and undermining innumerable groups and individuals they deemed “subversive,” even directly attempting to blackmail Martin Luther King Jr. into committing suicide. Many question whether the FBI is incurably ethically bankrupt – whether the swamp is, in fact, too deep to drain.
ON THE OTHER HAND, many members of the John Adams Society – living as they do in the Twin Cities – are personally well-acquainted with the need for Law and Order both at the state and federal level. The FBI has its origins in federal efforts to prosecute inter-state criminal gangs and violent revolutionaries, and was instrumental in counter-espionage efforts during World War II and the Cold War. Today, more crimes than ever cross state boundaries, seemingly necessitating a strong federal investigative police force to protect us from society’s worst elements. If we are to Back the Blue, we must necessarily Back the Boys in Blue as well.
THE CHAIRMAN, who out of courage or foolishness ignores the consequent risk of reprisal by the Blueshirts, has called a caucus of the Society to debate the following proposition:
RESOLVED: Break up the FBI.
The Debate will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Burger Moe’s, 242 West 7th Street, St. Paul, MN 55102.The Chancellor and Chairman encourage people to arrive prior to 7 o'clock p.m. and to thank our host venue by spending money while partaking of food and drink. The debate will begin at half past seven. There is no dress code; however, gentlemen who wish to speak must wear a tie, and ladies are encouraged to adhere to a similar sartorial standard. For those gentlemen arriving sans tie yet wishing to discourse on the resolution, the Purveyor of Ties will keep on hand several remarkable selections.
