When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall, one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle.

- Edmond Burke - 1770

POLITICS HAS BECOME A BLOOD SPORT with the people of the United States and the United States Constitution being the collateral damage. Today, the demand for moral authority and character in public office is of the utmost importance.

We need noble people who legitimately desire to serve and work to make a difference in the lives of people they represent and who will support and defend our sacred document, The Constitution of the United States. There are no easy answers why a qualified person should run for office, but if you feel called to do so, you may change history. God uses ordinary people to do the extraordinary.

ON THE OTHER HAND, a life in the private sector would most likely be the more peaceful and profitable option. Choosing a life in public service can be beyond what a family can endure. Reputations get ruined and lives destroyed. Every file, document, conversation, and rumor about you is brought to the forefront to be torn apart and scrutinized in the proverbial public square. Trial by TV.

THE CHAIRMAN, who prefers sitting with a glass of fine oloroso to standing for anything, has called a debate to settle the question:

RESOLVED: Standing for Office is Worth the Sacrifice.

The Debate will be held on October 17, 2018, at Shamrocks Grill & Pub, 995 7th Street W., in Saint Paul (West 7th near Randolph Ave.)

The Chancellor will preside over drinks beginning at seven o’clock p.m. The debate will begin at half past seven. There is no dress code, however gentlemen who wish to speak must wear a tie; ladies are encouraged to adhere to a similar sartorial standard. For those gentlemen arriving sans tie yet wishing to discourse on the resolution, the Purveyor of Ties will keep on hand several remarkable selections.

In addition, the Chairman encourages all to join him as early as 6:30 pm for a bite to eat. Let us thank Shamrocks for the use of their room in the most sincere way possible -- by spending our money. God Bless Free Enterprise!
