THERE IS A HOLE IN THE SKY! THE SEA IS RISING! All human life will be wiped out if we don’t act now! The steady drum beat of doom sounds from the left, and the message is always the same: The government can save us from today’s headlines, but it needs the power to act now; we must give up our liberty or we will all be doomed.
Communism’s march to take over the world has fallen on the ash heap of history, with a helpful nudge from Ronald Reagan, so the Reds must try to destroy capitalism from within. They seek to destroy our free economy by depriving us of affordable energy, preventing or confiscating profit, and ending individual liberty. Most of their measures are disguised as attempts to protect the environment. They can cure pollution, but only by completely regulating all business. They can prevent global warming, but we must give up nuclear power and carbon-based energy. They can save the whales/dolphins/tuna, but we must change what we eat. They can save the snail darter and the spotted owl, but we must stop all building. Save the planet - join the collective.
ON THE OTHER HAND, there are many freedom loving people who also want to protect the environment, many more than the Reds who only pretend to care. The Reds pretend to be Green to blend in with a larger group while moving in for the kill, like a hunter or solder wearing camouflage. We cannot win over the larger group by calling them useful idiots. We can win them over by sharing their real concern for the environment, while showing that capitalism and freedom are good for the environment.
THE CHAIRMAN, whose claims of being Irish are pure blarney, has called a debate to settle the question:
Resolved: Green is Just Another Shade of Red.
The Debate will be held on Wednesday March 17, 2010 at the University Club, 420 Summit Avenue, in Saint Paul. The Chancellor will preside over drinks beginning at seven o'clock p.m. The debate will begin at half past seven. While there is no dress code for attendance, gentlemen who wish to speak must wear a tie; ladies should adhere to a similar sartorial standard. For those gentlemen who arrive tieless yet wish to speak, fret not: the Purveyor of Ties will keep on hand at least one of his quite remarkable ties for just such an eventuality.
