The federal government is in gross violation of the very document which provides the framework for our nation: The Constitution. Rather than seek change via Constitutional Amendment, the evil troika of legislative overreach, judicial malpractice and Electorate apathy has allowed the Government to assert control in such a manner that our fundamental right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is placed further in jeopardy with each passing day.
With the words of our Constitution having been reduced to mere ink on parchment, subject to the whims of those well versed in doublespeak, we can no longer count on the protections of that historic manuscript. Gone is the time where we might hope of resolution via the political process, and Good Men can no longer be content simply to stand athwart history yelling “Stop”. Action - decisive action - must occur.
On the other hand, our current national direction is simply what we, the citizens, voted for – “Change”. Anyone who paid even the slightest attention to Barack Obama’s past associations, writings, statements, voting record and campaign promises cannot claim to be surprised that he is, in all but name, a Socialist. These may be desperate times for both Republicans and Conservatives, but the only measures that we should take, beyond fighting the good political fight, are those measures that help to ensure electoral victory in 2010 and beyond.
THE CHAIRMAN, for whom lighting any cigar but one originating from Cuba is a desperate, but necessary, measure, has called a debate to settle the question:
Resolved: Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures.
The Debate will be held on Wednesday March 18, 2009 at the University Club, 420 Summit Avenue, in Saint Paul. The Chancellor will preside over drinks beginning at seven o'clock p.m. The debate will begin at half past seven. While there is no dress code for attendance, gentlemen who wish to speak must wear a tie; ladies should adhere to a similar sartorial standard. For those gentlemen who arrive tieless yet wish to speak, fret not: the Purveyor of Ties will keep on hand at least one of his quite remarkable ties for just such an eventuality.
